Planning a Beach Vacation Hunting for Sharks Teeth in Venice Florida

Hunting for your own sharks teeth in Venice, Florida is one of the most rewarding, fun and unusual ways you could spend a vacation in Florida. The teeth you find can be used to make necklaces, bracelets, placed on display in your home or used however you see fit. Whenever a friend asks you where you got it, you can proudly tell them that you dug it up yourself in Florida.
Does it Hurt the Environment?
Not at all. People often associate digging for fossils with careful excavation of something that’s delicate and fragile. The sharks teeth you can find in Venice, Florida on the other hand are completely different.
These teeth come from a creature known as the “Megalodon,” a shark that shed over 20,000 teeth throughout its lifetime. These creatures became extinct a long time ago, but their teeth still remain.
The area that we today know as Venice, Florida used to be the hotbed of where Megalodons swam. They would frequently shed their teeth where the beach is now. Sometimes they would even pass away near the beach, causing their carcasses to decompose and fossilize nearby.
In short, there are still millions of sharks teeth to be found in Venice, Florida. Looking for your own sharks teeth doesn’t hurt the environment in the slightest.
What Should You Bring?
There are a few key items you should bring when planning a vacation for sharks teeth hunting.
First, you’ll want to bring your standard beach ware. That means bathing suits, towels and most importantly sunscreen. You want a high SPF sunscreen if you plan on sifting through sand to find teeth. You could be in the sun for hours, so don’t skimp on your sunscreen.
You’ll also want to bring any jewelry making gear you might want, if you plan on turning your sharks teeth into accessories. Even just a simple string and a few beads can go a long way towards making your own personalized necklaces.
Choosing a Place to Stay
Choosing a good place to stay makes a big difference.
First, you want to stay somewhere that has free sifters. The last thing you want is to have to buy your own sifters or to have to pay to rent them. Sifters are your most important tool for finding sharks teeth, so you want to have access to high quality sifters – for free.
Next, you want to have knowledgeable staff. The staff needs to be able to point you towards the best places for finding sharks teeth, as well as educate you on the right techniques to use. That means the staff needs to have people who regularly go sharks teeth hunting themselves, rather than just desk staff who take orders. The staff should be genuinely excited to help you have this unique adventure.
The hotel you stay at should also have free beach bikes. Beach bikes are bikes that are designed to be able to gain traction in the sand. Since you’ll often be moving from spot to spot in search of sharks teeth, you definitely want to have a beach bike on hand. These can cost quite a bit to rent, so try to get them free.
One of the best places to stay that matches all these criteria is Venice Beach Villas. They have plenty of free sharks teeth sifters, free bikes and great advice. They also have a full kitchen, so you can cool your own meals if you so choose.
Plan Your Other Adventures
In addition to hunting for sharks teeth, you’ll often want to combine your vacation with other kinds of adventures. The Venice Florida area has many other activities for you to choose from, including:
• Scuba diving
• Fishing
• Jet skiing
• Boating
• Golf
• Kayaking
• Para sailing
And a lot more. Talk to everyone in your group to get a sense for what everyone wants to do while on vacation.
Planning a sharks teeth vacation in Venice Florida is an adventure you’ll never forget. Not only do you have all kinds of different adventures you can experience, but you’ll all come home with souvenirs that you dug up yourself. It’s an adventure that few people get to go on.

Welcome to the Venice Beach Villas blog!

We are glad you found us. The purpose of this blog is to keep you updated on special events and other information going on in and around Venice as well as at our properties.

Since we are the Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World, there is always good shark’s tooth hunting on our beaches. Currently, according to many of our recent guests, the best hunting is done at low tide on Casperson Beach which is south of the Venice Fishing Pier and Sharkey’s Restaurant. We have shark’s tooth sifters for our guests’ use at both of our locations! If you are a scuba diver, the best shark’s tooth hunting right off the beach is at Service Park Beach . Swim straight out from the large pine tree out past the end of the pier and circle back to the south towards shore. Or, you can go out diving with Aristakat Charters….see their link on our website.

The Triangle Inn Association has begun their 2011 Historic Trolley Tours. Tours are available at 9:30am and 11am on the following Saturdays: 1/8, 1/22, 2/12, 2/26, 3/12 & 3/26. Tickets are $15 each, payable via cash or check. Call the Triangle Inn for more details at (941) 486.2487.
