Historic Spanish Point

The Historic Spanish Point houses over 5000 years of history. The site is considered one of the most haunted places in Sarasota County. In its pre-colonial life, Sarasota County was home to the indigenous natives. The Spanish point site houses an ancient Native American burial mound from up to 3000 years ago. Archeologists digging through the remnants of the past report elevated ghost activity. The endlessly lingering spirits are thought to be those of early natives.

Soon after the area’s colonization, Spanish Point once again became a place of goodbyes. Early settlers made it into a pioneer cemetery. As a result, visitors often claim to see the ghosts of these restless colonial settlers. As they continue to roam the grounds as if alive.

Rosemary Cemetery

The Rosemary cemetery is home to over 700 gravesites. The plot of land once even served as the go-to resting site for the wealthy. Some of Sarasota County’s most prominent figures are there. As a matter of fact, the body of Sarasota’s first mayor, J.H. Gillespie, can be found there. Gillespie is recognized as being the first golf course developers in Florida, and the whole country. His spirit is still felt at the cemetery today. And many who dare wander the grounds after dark report hearing the swing of his club.

The cemetery doesn’t just house the affluent. The area is also host to spirits who were met with tragic ends during their lives. One such family, The Greens, is buried at the site. The victims of a brutal slaughter by the father’s hands, the Greens, frequently wander the cemetery. Visiting mediums can often speak with Mrs. Green and her three children, restless and lingering on Earth after their tragic demise.

The Ringling Estate

The business enthusiast and real estate developer John Ringling brought his wife to Sarasota County to establish the winter headquarters for the famous Ringling Barnum & Bailey Circus. They built the headquarters and a regal Venetian-style mansion overlooking the bay. After their deaths, they were buried on the grounds of their lovely estate. Caretakers regularly see the late couple and their dog wandering the mansion. John has been seen visiting the art galleries. Gazing in admiration of his prized collection of art.
