History

Over the years, the pier has gone under many renovations and re-builds. The history of the Venice Fishing Pier dates back to 1966 when it was first built. It was destroyed by a storm in 1981 and was later re-built in 1984, with it again being removed in 2004. Its latest rehabilitation took place in 2019 with upgraded materials, sea-turtle-friendly, under handrail lights, and new fish-cleaning stations and benches.

Watch a sunset

The pier is a great place to watch the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy a nice stroll down to the end of the pier for the best views in the house.

Go fishing

Fishing at the pier is the most popular activity. On any given day, visitors are likely to see the perimeter of the pier lined with fisherman seeking to get their catch of the day. There is a bait shop located halfway down the pier and is open seven days a week. There is no fishing license required when fishing at the pier.

Eat at Sharky’s on the Pier

If there is one thing you do at the Venice Fishing Pier, you must eat at Sharky’s on the Pier. This legendary restaurant is a Venice-area landmark. It has been voted Florida’s best beach bar for many years and is a fun spot to grab some food and a drink, all while taking in the views of the Gulf of Mexico. Be sure to try their beach fries, Cabo calamari, and the coconut shrimp.

Amenities

Amenities at the pier include fishing, golf course, bait shop, picnic pavilion, sand volleyball courts, restrooms, and showers.
